New Head of School Announced-
John Jordan, Longtime Archmere Academy Principal

(Wilmington, DE) — Monday, March 9th 2020   Dr. Robert Penna, Chair of the Board of St. Edmond’s Academy, announced today that seasoned local educator, John Jordan, will assume the role as Head of School, effective July 1, 2020.

Mr. Jordan comes to St. Edmond’s after nearly three decades with Archmere Academy, first as an English teacher, then Director of Admissions, and most recently, as Principal of the school — a position he has held since 2012. Mr. Jordan received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree from the University of Delaware.

“We are absolutely thrilled that John has decided to join the St. Edmond’s family as our new Head of School,” said Dr. Penna. “John has deep roots in the local community, a stellar reputation and unparalleled educational leadership experience. As a former member of our Board of Directors, he is very familiar with our active community and shared culture, and our deep commitment to educating the hearts and minds of our boys in the Holy Cross tradition. We consider ourselves and our students very fortunate to have attracted such a talented and well-respected individual to lead our school.”

As the Head of School, Mr. Jordan will serve as the Chief Executive Officer and the designated spokesperson and representative for the Academy. In collaboration with the Academy’s Administrators and Board of Directors, he will set the spirit and tone of the school, striving to maintain the legacy of a strong Christian atmosphere based on the teaching of the Catholic Church and the vision and values of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Additionally, Mr. Jordan will lead strategy and execution in the areas of admissions and advancement. He replaces Brian Ray, St. Edmond’s Head of School since 2015, who announced in February that he would be leaving after the current school year to pursue other opportunities.

“It is with excitement and humility that I join the St. Edmond’s community,” said Mr. Jordan. “My calling at Archmere has been a joyous one, but I feel God’s calling to grow in my educational journey. St. Edmond’s charism speaks to the heart of a mission-driven community. As our founder, the Bl. Basil Moreau said: ‘How we educate the mind will change with the times; how we cultivate the heart is, and will remain, timeless.’ The passion and character of the young men who graduate from St. Edmond’s illustrates this timelessness. We’re here together to educate and change. I cannot think of a better place to do that than at St. Ed’s. I thank the Board for their faith in me and in the welcoming community of St. Edmond’s. I cannot wait to start building community with the students, faculty, administration, and parents.”
