Class of 2019's Last Day in their Blazers

FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL
Dear SEA Families,
Today I am asking every parent to please take a moment to read through this entire letter as it's full of important details regarding next week.

Next week we shift to our spring uniform. Monday, I am giving the boys a choice of the summer or winter uniform. There is no longer a Tag Day for Monday as was previously announced. The boys have been told quite a few times at this point. Tuesday, all students are required to be in spring uniform.  [Click here for the uniform guidelines]. It might be chilly, so we encourage your son to wear a SEA sweatshirt or pullover. Any other sweatshirt or pullover will not be permitted when your son is in the building.

Starting this Monday (April 1st), students in grades 4-7 will take the ERBs. Prompt arrival times are expected. If a student arrives after the test begins, he will have to wait until the second test begins to enter the room. He will then have to make up the first test during recess or after school. To be clear, students need to be here before 8 am.

The testing will take place Monday- Friday, with an additional test on Monday, April 8th just for 7th graders. Standardized testing is never fun. It can be exhausting for all involved. Students not in grades 4-7 will have a regularly scheduled day. For students taking the ERBs, each morning will be comprised of 80 minutes of testing for five days. Below is the outline of tests that comprise the CTP portion of the ERB standardized tests:
[Open to see schedule.]

The good news is that homework will be limited (for grades 4-7) so the boys can take extra time for sleep. Rest is critical this week, and we hope you can help make this happen!

One last thought on our shift from the TerraNova test to the ERB assessments. Private/independent schools often conduct ERB achievement tests. Our students will be compared to a competitive population of students in private schools and high ranking public schools. Last year we made the shift to the ERBs, and this year we will be able to see how our students are progressing. One of the criticisms from our parents was the explanation of scores. This year, Mr. Cincotta and I will work diligently to give you a better understanding when reading your son’s scores.

Hopefully, this weekend will warm up, and we all have a chance to be outdoors!   -Tricia
