Dear Academy Families,
Over the past three weeks I have had the pleasure of getting to know a lot of the boys in the middle and upper forms. We have discussed their classes, goals and in many cases, their worries about the year. Along with the new school year comes excitement, promise and an uneasy feeling of the unknown. Whether it is starting at a new school, working with a new teacher, or joining a new extracurricular activity, transitions can be difficult. These concerns resonate with me, especially this year as I transition back to being a member of the SEA community. Even though my list of reasons for re-joining this amazing group of teachers, students and families is endless, I have felt the same sense of worry that many of our students have expressed. In these circumstances, it is important to consider the support structures my colleagues and I have put into place. Our focus is connecting in ways that minimize that uneasiness for our students. As I have already told the students and teachers, I will rely on them to share their thoughts about the policies we are developing throughout our school. Their support is invaluable in making this a terrific learning environment. I have urged the boys to reach out to the same members of the community for support for themselves.
My message to the boys during our Back to School assembly was to push themselves to do two things. First, we want them to recognize and acknowledge their own need for help.    [Click here to finish reading.]
Our Parents' Association is happy to announce the return of SEA's Halloween Event on Saturday, October 19th. There will be tailgate-style ‘Trunk or Treating’ WJBR on site, music, food and so much fun for sure! We are currently asking families, sport teams, or homerooms to sign up to host a trunk. The event is also open to the community so share with a friend! We will send out more details about food and other events for the evening, but we are currently asking you to grab a spot for your trunk before they are all reserved!
We understand that as the clock approaches 7:55am, you begin to worry your son will arrive to find carline doors closed or that you'll miss your other drop-offs but everyone is in the same boat. Please be reminded that the left lane is only for driving through.  It should not be used for getting through carline faster. This creates several issues. We understand the inclination to pull ahead but we have to insist everyone follows the same safety procedures.
Spread the word to grandparents and special friends-- Be here next week--on Friday, September 27th to spend the morning with your Lancer.  Click here for more info and to submit your RSVP. Invitations are no longer being mailed. We have received so many responses already!  Thanks for taking care of this right away!
If your son would like to stay after school for extra high school testing practice, please email Mrs. Hartman stating what day he would like to attend. Those students will report to the library after school and need to be picked up at the Lower Form Extended Day entrance at 3:30pm.
Box Tops Update
You no longer need to clip the Box Tops. By downloading the app, you just scan your grocery receipt and we at SEA earn!

National Anthem Volunteers from the Academy Singers should report Saturday at 9:25am (in SEA summer uniform, unless you are dressed for running in the event) at Salesianum School to start the race with the National Anthem. Rehearsal for this is tomorrow at Enrichment time.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice  Rehearsal is Friday 3-4:30pm. Please bring script and two pencils. Parents should let Ms. DeHart know if you want a black tshirt ordered and if so, what size ($6). If any parent is available during that time slot to take measurements for their Magehall 'robes', your help would be appreciated. Performance is on Halloween at 1pm -Start memorizing!
Singin' in the Rain  Important to note before registering for Enrichment: Because of the shortened rehearsal time, students who will be trying out for the spring musical must be in one of our choirs because some of the music from the show will be rehearsed during the choir meetings at Enrichment period. Academy Chorus and The Lancers (invited) meet once a cycle, Academy Singers (invited) and Men's Ensemble meet twice a cycle. Audition November 3rd, 3:00-6:00. Need 6th to 8th grade girl tappers.
The Greatest Snowman   Congrats to our 4th graders who auditioned. The cast list has been posted and we are starting rehearsals in class for all 4th graders and on F day for speaking parts. All 4th graders will have a character and a part in the play. We are looking for a 4th grade girl who likes to be on the stage for the part of Mrs. Claus. She would need to attend two rehearsals and the performance. Contact Ms. DeHart if you have an interested young lady.
Concert Band  Concert Band will be offered in place of Beginner Band. The key difference is that Concert band will be made up of BOTH beginner students and veterans of the program. This change is not only to create a more inclusive and supportive environment between veteran and new band students, but to also allow more flexibility in scheduling. Before, if you were in the second year of doing the band, you HAD to pick Lancer Band on A,C and E days, effectively locking you out of any activities during enrichment on those days. Now, not only will students have the ability to pick and choose, but if a student is really dedicated to band and only band, they can sign up for both Lancer AND Concert band. I hope these changes help you find your place in our band program! email
