FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Academy Parents,
This week Drew, my son, and I had to submit five college applications.  We have five more to go, but we are in the thick of thinking about his future.  I lie awake many nights wondering how he will do in college.  Will he be successful without Brian and me touching base every day? …Will he find his life’s path?  …Will he be happy?  …Will he remember to rely on his faith in God to guide his life decisions?  …So many questions and just as many unknowns. As his mom, I am so excited for Drew.  He has the world at his fingertips. However, I have to admit I am also frightened.  I pray every night we have guided Drew enough to now take on this life with confidence, hope, and grace.  So as you tuck your son into bed tonight, treasure the moment.  Hug him and hold him tight as it goes so fast.  Soon enough it will be your turn to complete college applications with your son.   And Drew?  Well, hopefully while you are completing college applications my son will be happy and paying his own way. We had quite a busy week at the Academy with assemblies, fire drills, and parent/teacher conferences.  Monday, grades 4-8, enjoyed a presentation by Mike Marstellar on “It’s Cool to Be K.I.N.D.”  Mike talked to the boys about knowing themselves, inspiring ‘haters’ to change, navigating with empathy, and developing meaningful friendships along their life journey. It was a powerful message. Many thanks to the Parents' Guild for their sponsorship of this event!   Don’t forget Monday is a pink tag day in honor of the many survivors of breast cancer.  All donations will go to the Helen Graham Center at Christiana Hospital.  Sadly, it seems we all know someone suffering from breast cancer, so Student Council wanted to do something positive.   I hope you were able to talk to your son’s teacher(s) during Parent/Teacher conferences. If you were unable to meet your son’s teacher, we can figure out a time to arrange that.  Please be reminded that we are all in this together!  It is the communication and support among teachers and parents that makes all the difference in your son’s growth.  Enjoy your weekend!    Tricia
