Choral Music Program

ACADEMY CHORUS

  • Discovery and enjoyment of the pleasures of singing
  • Strive toward accurate unison singing
  • Work toward part singing with rounds, ostinati, descants and partner songs
  • Sing a variety of styles and music from different periods
  • Work toward independent performance as an ensemble

MEN’S ENSEMBLE

  • Become practiced at accommodating vocal changes expected for the adolescent male singer (‘Singing Through the Change’)
  • Learn to work individually and as part of an ensemble
  • Apply music theory to vocal music (Solfege, rhythm patterns, form,identify measure numbers, identify key signatures, meter)
  • Assimilate and perform a variety of repertoire (spirituals,folk music, period/culture pieces, religious, musical theatre and film, novelty/popular music
  • Work toward singing expressively in parts with competency and assurance (TB, TTB)
  • Improve ability to sing in unison accurately
  • Improve ability to sight read music
  • Learn basic vocal warm-ups to improve vocal production and protect the voice
  • Practice breath control, vocal phrasing, diction and tone production for individual and group performance improvement
  • Challenge experienced singers with All-State Chorus auditions (grades 7&8 only)

THE ACADEMY SINGERS

  • Learn to work individually and as part of an ensemble
  • Apply music theory to vocal music (Solfege, rhythm patterns, form, identify measure #s, identify key signatures, meter, etc.)
  • Assimilate and perform a variety of repertoire to include spirituals, folk music, music of different periods and cultures, religious, musical theatre and film, novelty and popular music
  • Assimilate and perform a variety of repertoire including specific masterworks associated with Boys Choirs                                                           
  • Work toward singing expressively in parts with competency and assurance (SA and SSA)
  • Improve ability to sing in unison accurately
  • Improve ability to sight read music
  • Learn basic vocal warm-ups to improve vocal production and protect the voice. 
  • Practice breath control, vocal phrasing, diction and tone production for individual and group performance improvement
  • Sing in Latin and other foreign languages
  • Develop an awareness of world cultures and historic periods through vocal music
  • Challenge experienced singers with All-State Chorus audition (grades 7&8 only)
